Mitchell Cannon

Mitchell Cannon was originally a fiddle player, but hearing Ricky Skaggs play the mandolin inspired him to take up the instrument while still in grade school. The Burnsville, North Carolina native performed for years in church and at festivals before enrolling in the Bluegrass, Old Time, and Country Music program at East Tennessee State University, where he studied under legendary mandolinist Adam Steffey (Alan Jackson, Alison Krauss). He also played in a band with Cody Hull, brother of mandolin prodigy Sierra Hull. “Joining NewTown is the ideal situation for me. It’s great to be with a group of musicians who are able to play off each other like this,” he says. “I honestly couldn’t ask for a better gig.”
